Volunteer Code of Conduct

Volunteers using Amherst Island Radio facilities commit to the following:
Maintain a harassment-free environment. Volunteers are expected to abide by the “Amherst Island Radio Harassment and Violence Prevention Policy” while representing Amherst Island Radio in-person and on social media platforms. Harassment and Violence Prevention Policy
Maintain security of radio station premises while in-use, including ensuring doors are locked accordingly.
Operate equipment in a safe manner only after being properly trained. Treat radio station equipment with care. Report broken or malfunctioning equipment, or any safety concerns, to the station leadership.
Ensure that the studios and rooms are tidy, free of garbage and ready for the next volunteers to use. Reset all equipment into the default state that it was found in.
Volunteer Broadcasters will avoid defamatory language, statements and behaviour. Volunteer broadcasters must abide by the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council guidelines, including “Clause 9 – Radio Broadcasting” of their Code of Ethics which reads in part:
“… particular care shall be taken by radio broadcasters to ensure that programming on their stations does not contain:
- (a) Gratuitous violence in any form, or otherwise sanction, promote or glamorize violence;
- (b) Unduly sexually explicit material; and/or
- (c) Unduly coarse and offensive language.”

Volunteer Broadcasters shall document their music logs and play music in accordance with Canadian Copyright Laws.
Volunteer Broadcasters shall reliably host their radio show(s) at the agreed-upon times.
No smoking, vaping, cannabis or alcohol consumption is permitted on premises. Volunteers are expected to not be intoxicated while operating any equipment.
Volunteers are responsible for ensuring that any guests that they invite onto radio station premises also follow this Code of Conduct, where applicable.
Failure to abide by this Code of Conduct may result in losing the privilege to use Amherst Island Radio resources and to represent the radio station in the community.
